MidCoast Council has welcomed a new face to its elected body following the recent resignation of Councillor Dheera Smith.
The newly elected councillor, Janeece Irving, officially joined the Council this week, stepping into the role left vacant by Cr Smith last month.
Cr Smith, who had served on MidCoast Council since 2021, cited health reasons for stepping down. The departure triggered a countback process managed by the NSW Electoral Commission to determine the next eligible candidate.
Council’s General Manager Adrian Panuccio welcomed Cr Irving to the team, expressing confidence in the Council's continued stability and focus on community priorities.
“We’re pleased to have Cr Irving join us. It’s important that the community continues to have full representation, and we look forward to the contributions she will make,” Mr Panuccio said.
“We also thank Dheera Smith for her service and the dedication she brought to the role.”
Cr Irving will serve the remainder of the current Council term, which runs until the next local government elections in September 2028.
Her addition ensures the Council continues to operate at full capacity as it works to deliver on its key priorities of roads, financial sustainability and customer experience.
