Join Council’s Aboriginal Reference group

Aboriginal community members are invited to nominate for MidCoast Council’s Aboriginal Reference Group.

The reference group provides an opportunity for an Aboriginal voice to guide Council on strategic decisions that affect the Aboriginal community.

“The key focus of this group is it improve outcomes for Aboriginal people in the MidCoast region,” Council’s Manager of Libraries, Community and Cultural Services, Alex Mills said.

“Members will consult with community and provide feedback to the community on the groups meeting outcomes.

“The reference group will also provide Council with advice and direction on cultural and language protocols.”

The committee will include Councillors, representatives of the Local Aboriginal Land Councils and the four Aboriginal working parties from Gloucester, Great Lakes, Taree and Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest.

Council is seeking new Aboriginal community member representatives that may be:

  • Elders or Traditional Owners

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people from the MidCoast.

  • Aboriginal young people aged 18+

  • Gathang language holders

  • Tea Gardens Customer Service Point: 245 Myall Street, Tea Gardens – 23 May

  • Gloucester Customer Service Point: Friday 30 May
