MidCoast Council is pleased to announce the expansion of its Community Recycling Centre (CRC) Battery Collection Program, which now includes the collection of embedded batteries. This update is part of the ongoing commitment to reduce waste and ensure that hazardous materials are properly disposed of.
Embedded batteries, which are often difficult to remove without the use of tools, can now be recycled through participating CRCs across the MidCoast region. These types of batteries are commonly found in products such as:
This expansion complements the existing battery collection efforts across the region and provides a more sustainable way to dispose of potentially hazardous items that would otherwise end up in landfill or be placed in kerbside bins.
While all Waste Management Centres accept CRC materials the new official sites funded by the NSW EPA are located at Taree, Tuncurry and Gloucester Waste Services Centres.
Council encourages the community to take advantage of this program to responsibly dispose of their unwanted electronics and batteries. This initiative is a key step in reducing the environmental impact of hazardous waste and furthering our commitment to a cleaner, greener MidCoast.
As part of this update, new signage and handling instructions will be rolled out at CRCs to ensure proper disposal practices. We ask that all members of the community adhere to these updated guidelines when visiting CRCs to drop off their embedded batteries and other recyclable materials.
For further information on the program and to find the nearest CRC location, please visit the MidCoast Council website or contact our customer service team.
