Council Meetings

Community members are welcome to come and see Local Government in action at our meetings.

Council meetings are usually held on the fourth Wednesday of the month commencing at 2pm.

Strategic committee meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of the month commencing at 10am.

The meetings follow the Code of Meeting Practice(PDF, 6MB).

Addressing Council

With prior notification and arrangement with the Mayor, a member of the public can address a Council meeting personally, or on behalf of a group of residents.

There are two opportunities for members of the community to address Council. If you would like to speak at a Council meeting please read the information and guidelines below before completing the request form.

Public forum  (prior to Council meeting)

For an item not on the meeting agenda community members can apply to address Council at the public forum held prior to a Council meeting (between 1.15pm and 1.45pm).

If no applications to speak are received by 4pm the day prior to the meeting this forum will not proceed.

  • Speakers can apply to address Council on up to two (2) items of business not on the agenda
  • Speakers will have three (3) minutes on each item to address Council
  • Councillor/s may ask questions of the speaker
  • A speaker may not ask questions of Council, Councillors or Council staff
  • Council can not make a decision or a determination in this forum

Public speakers (during a Council meeting)

For items on the meeting agenda community members can apply to address Council during the Ordinary Meeting that commences at 2pm.

  • Applications to speak at a Council meeting must be received by 4pm the day prior to the meeting
  • Speakers can apply to address Council on up to two (2) items of business on the agenda of the Council meeting
  • Up to three (3) speakers for and three (3) speakers against each item on the agenda will be allowed
  • Speakers have three (3) minutes on each item
  • Councillors are not able to ask questions of the speaker
  • A speaker may not ask questions of Council, Councillors or Council staff

Agendas are usually available on the website by 1pm on the Friday prior to the meeting date and the minutes of the meeting will be available on the website a few days after each meeting.

Reports are included within the Agenda.

Meetings prior to the formation of MidCoast Council on 12 May 2016

We are in the process of uploading documentation for Council meetings prior to the merger of the three former Councils. You can search these by selecting the relevant former Council in the 'Meeting Type' search box.

If you cannot find the meeting you are looking for, this may still be awaiting upload. Requests for information can be made via email (please include specific details such as the meeting date and / or agenda item you are looking for) or phone. We will then upload the requested meeting documents to the website.
