Environment Protection Licence #3175
The Hallidays Point sewage treatment plant Environment Protection Licence (#3175) specifies concentration limits for specific water quality parameters from treated effluent prior to discharge. These limits are not to be exceeded throughout the licence period occurring annually from 15thof February. Biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), oil and grease are monitored monthly as a requirement of the licence. The relevant concentration limits are listed in table 1.
Groundwater monitoring is also conducted as a requirement of the licence. There are 23 bores associated with the licence (EPA Points 4,6,8,10,11,12,13,14,16,17,18,19,20,22,23,24,25,26,27,29,30,31,32).Groundwater samples are collected quarterly. Parameters monitored include: alkalinity, biological oxygen demand (BOD), conductivity (EC), faecal coliforms (FC), ammonia, total phosphorus, totalkjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) calcium, magnesium, oxidised nitrogen, potassium, sodium and sulfate.
