Happiness heaped on local businesses

The NSW Government’s Small Business Month was celebrated across the MidCoast region in October with 100 local businesses being nominated by their customers to win happiness hampers.

In the wake of the devastating bushfires and the global COVID-19 pandemic, we know this is one of the toughest years many small businesses have faced. Many have suffered losses, some have pivoted more than once to retain customers and others have worked to capture new markets and radically change their offerings.

“These efforts should not go unnoticed so, partnering with Taree, Harrington, Wingham and Forster Tuncurry Business Chambers, and thanks to a grant from the NSW Government, we ran a competition asking our community to nominate their favourite businesses, the businesses they felt deserved recognition and a little pampering,” said Council’s Manager of Growth, Economic Development and Tourism, DebTuckerman.

“Over 160 people put forward nominations, all telling us amazing stories about local businesses.”

Over the last weeks, MidCoast Council officers have been traversing the LGA delivering happiness hampers to the lucky winners.

These hampers are filled with products sourced from our local area – just another way to recognise and celebrate our businesses.

“While the Council officers are not normally in the business of making people cry, the overwhelming joy and humble surprise of the recipients has caused many a tear,” added Deb Tuckerman.

We have a fabulous business community and they deserve to be celebrated. You can keep sharing the local love by getting on board with the #ShopMidCoast program, which now includes Gift Cards that can be redeemed at over 200 businesses region-wide.
