Reconstruction works along Old Bar Road have commenced at the busy Saltwater Road and Red Gum Road intersections, with relocation of water services being undertaken from mid-March and the road upgrade beginning on Monday 6 April. Conducted by contractors Goldspring Group on our behalf, it is expected the project will continue through to completion in mid-June 2020, weather permitting.

With a focus on improving safety, the road will be widened to include dedicated turning lanes into and out of both Saltwater Road and Red Gum Road, providing improved traffic flow and greater line-of-sight visibility. The full scope of works includes:

  • Clearing of nearby vegetation
  • Relocating street lighting
  • Shoulder widening
  • Road reconstruction finishing with an asphalt seal
  • Installing drainage
  • New signage and line marking

The work undertaken prior to the Easter break involved establishing the site, investigation works and tree clearing, with minimal disruption to traffic.

From Tuesday 14 April through to completion, motorists can expect changed traffic conditions, lane closures managed under traffic control and short delays that should be factored into travel times. As with all roadworks, motorists are reminded to observe all signage, reduced speed limits and instructions from crews, and to travel with caution.

Changes to Old Bar Cycleway: A section of the existing cycleway will be moved to make way for the new road pavement and shoulder. This work will be undertaken during work hours on Friday 17 April, and in the first half of the week commencing 20 April. Arrangements will be made to allow access by cyclists while the work is in progress, and the cycleway will be accessible after hours.

Please note: There will be no disruption in accessing properties or businesses around the work zone, including the Old Bar Tavern (however given the current COVID-19 situation, please check directly with any businesses regarding whether they are operating / their hours of operation).

As with any roadworks, timings can change. Please check back here for further updates.

This project is funded by the NSW Government in association with Council as part of the $100M Road Upgrade package.
