Browns Creek Bridge, Firefly
As part of our focus on improving infrastructure across the region, works are being undertaken to replace Browns Creek Bridge on Bunyah Road at Firefly. Commencing mid-July 2020, this project will continue over approximately 4 months, weather-permitting for completion in November.
The project involves dismantling the existing timber bridge, and constructing a two-lane concrete bridge in its place. Road approaches on each side will also be reconstructed to suit the new, wider bridge.
Along with improving traffic safety, replacing timber for concrete is part of our value-for-money approach, reducing annual maintenance costs which can be significant on our ageing timber bridges.
The nature of this project and location of the bridge will require Bunyah Road to be closed while the works are conducted. Clearly marked detours will be in place, using Waterloo Road (to the west) and Milligans Lane / Wang Wauk Road / Dargavilles Road (on the eastern side). Locals and travellers using this route are asked to remain alert to roadworks signage and follow the detours which may add approximately 10 minutes travel time. Please note, access will be provided only to residents within the closed section of Bunyah Road.
