Household problem waste

Dispose of your household hazardous waste safely

Imagine turning your garage into a safe family space

Are your garage shelves stacked with half-filled paint tins, old motor oils and batteries that have been there for years?

Problem waste items like these, and many others, don’t belong in your yellow-lidded recycling bin. Disposing of them properly makes your home safer, removes unwanted clutter, and reduces the risk of injury to our waste service operators.

The good news is that they can be dropped off for free to any of our Waste Management Centres.

Some of the most common problem waste items are:

  • Gas bottles
  • Paint
  • Motor oils
  • Car batteries
  • Household batteries
  • Fluoro globes and tubes
  • Smoke detectors
  • Fire extinguishers

But others include:

  • Old x-rays
  • Electronic waste like old mobile phones and computers
  • Block polystyrene packaging

Our Waste Management Centres are equipped to dispose of these items in a safe and environmentally friendly way - where possible, even recycling elements of some of them.
