Harrington Sewage Treatment Plant Stage 1B Upgrade

Picture1.jpg

The inlet works at the Harrington Sewage Treatment Plant will be upgraded to improve the efficiency of the plant and reduce ongoing maintenance costs. This will extend the operational lifespan of the plant and allow for population growth and future development in Harrington and Crowdy Head.

The inlet works at the Harrington Sewage Treatment Plant is old and requires ongoing maintenance. With no grit removal system in place, the build-up of grit is also affecting the efficiency of the plant’s downstream aeration process.

The step screen, which is used to remove large objects from the sewage as it flows into the inlet works, will be replaced with either a band screen or a screw screen to improve the effectiveness of the screening process and reduce the associated maintenance and refurbishment costs. A grit removal system will also be installed to eliminate the problem of grit build-up in the downstream aeration process.

The upgrade will improve the efficiency of the plant and reduce ongoing maintenance costs. It will also extend the operational lifespan of the plant and enable larger volumes of sewage to be treated, which in turn will allow for population growth and future development in Harrington and Crowdy Head.
