Love Your Life at the Seniors Festival
Published on 05 February 2019
The team at MidCoast Council is inviting everyone to join in and Love Your Life during this year’s Seniors Festival.
The Seniors Festival is an annual event held across NSW and encourages local seniors to enjoy new experiences, continue learning, impart their skills, and have fun. It is the largest festival for people over 60 in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting up to 500,000 seniors across the state.
“Seniors are a vital part of our community, with nearly half our population aged over 60” said Lyndie Hepple, Council’s Community Strengthening Co-ordinator.
“With the theme ‘Love your Life’, this year’s festival is a great opportunity to connect, share, celebrate and be inspired to try new things, together.”
The festival will run from Wednesday 13 February to Sunday 24 February 2019, with activities planned across the MidCoast region.
“We have a great schedule of events that we hope will inform, engage, and entertain,” added Lyndie.
“There’s something for everyone from information sessions and workshops offering expert advice and skill development, through to a range of fun social events.”
In Council’s libraries, activities include technology workshops, movie screenings, music, dancing, yoga, tai-chi, meditation, digital photographic exhibitions and more.
“Events are being held at a host of libraries across the region, including Wingham, Taree, Harrington, Hallidays Point, Forster, Gloucester, Stroud and Tea Gardens,” explained Chris Jones, Manager MidCoast Libraries.
Council’s MidCoast Assist ageing services team also has a great range of events planned on 22 February, with an activity day being held in the MidCoast Assist Ageing Services Centre near Forster Library on Breese Parade.
MidCoast Stories will share how to record stories from the past, Council’s Road Safety Officer, Chris Dimarco will present an information session on road safety for seniors, Centrelink will talk about getting finances in order and the MidCoast Assist team will round out the day with information about their services available to help at home.
There’s lots to love about life at any age and there’s lots to love about this year’s Seniors Festival!
