MidCoast residents are being supported to plan and prepare homes and property for the bushfire season, as the NSW RFS opens its doors on Get Ready Weekend on 19 and 20 September.

“Our amazing local RFS brigades are made up of trained volunteers who risked their lives to protect our lives, homes and property last year,” said Mayor David West.

“They are committed to making sure that every one of us has a bushfire emergency plan and prepare our properties for bushfire this season. This will not only protect our own lives and property, but also help keep our amazing RFS volunteers safe too.”

Visit midcoast.nsw.gov.au/getready to find a RFS Brigade near you that is planning events this weekend.

The RFS Tinonee Brigade is one of the local brigades who will be on hand to provide the community with all the resources needed to help with bushfire preparation during Get Ready Weekend.

Tinonee Brigade, like many MidCoast local brigades, was actively deployed during the catastrophic fires so they have first-hand experience of things to do, and things NOT to do, in the event of a bushfire.

Their “Get Ready” weekend will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 12pm at the Tinonee shop precinct on the Bucketts Way, and it will be a mix of the serious and the fun.

So come on down, grab a latte from the Tinonee Country Café, and talk to a crew member about the bush fire risk for your area.

The Tinonee team can look up your property on Google Earth, and you can put your name down for a home visit and fire risk assessment by members of the Brigade.

Bring your kids too.  There will be opportunity for a photo with Tinonee’s brand new fire truck and the kids can also collect their very own fire helmet to take home.

Most importantly, talk to the Brigade about how to develop a fire plan for your property.

It takes 10 minutes to make a fire plan that will give your property, your family and yourself the best chance of survival should you come under threat.

To support the Get Ready weekend, Council will kick off a Get Ready MidCoast campaign immediately after Get Ready Weekend. Each week, you’ll be able to access, step by step, the resources and help you need to Get Ready – in 5 simple steps.
