MidCoast Council has welcomed the news that many of the COVID-19 related restrictions imposed across the State will start to lift from 1 June.

The State Government’s announcement that regional travel restrictions will be eased and libraries and galleries can reopen from that date signals a shift back to a more normal way of life for MidCoast residents.

General Manager Adrian Panuccio said Council was currently assessing the situation, including the requirements imposed by the State Government as part of the reopening of spaces such as libraries, galleries and visitor information centres.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the community back into our spaces as soon as it is safe for us to do so,” Mr Panuccio said.

“Requirements on how we are to manage the return of the community to our face-to-face spaces are currently being rolled out by the State Government, and we need to ensure we have all the safeguards in place to protect our community when we do open our doors. ”

Mr Panuccio added the lifting of regional travel restrictions will provide a welcome boost to local businesses who have been hard hit by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the bushfires.
