The draft Climate Change Policy provides a framework and a set of guiding principles for climate action, setting ambitious targets for climate mitigation, committing to reducing the risks of climate change to Council’s assets and operations and supporting the community’s efforts to do the same.
The Strategy outlines an approach to renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate adaptation for MidCoast Council that responds to its June 2019 resolution and sets out the case for a range of cost-effective actions that that can be implemented progressively over several years to mitigate and adapt to climate change in Council’s operations.
It is important to note that the Climate Change Strategy is the first phase in a two-part program of work, and is focused on Council’s assets and operations. The second phase of the project will focus on working with the MidCoast community to help them to reduce their emissions and increase their resilience to climate change.
The draft Policy and Strategy is now on public exhibition and will be open for feedback until Friday 12 March 2021.
