A live-stream that’s all about women

The team at MidCoast Libraries have partnered with the Sydney Opera House to live-stream the popular All About Women festival into Taree Library on Sunday 5 March 2017 from 10.30am to 1pm.
Now in its fifth year, All About Women is part of the Sydney Opera House’s Talks and Ideas program that features innovative thinkers, culture-shakers and storytellers that aim to invigorate discussion on important issues and ideas that matter to women today.
The morning will start with Academy Award Winner, Geena Davis, discussing the topic of Women and Media. Sharing her rare insight into Hollywood and the global film industry, Geena will discuss how far we still need to travel before girls can see the variety of women they want to become in the films they watch, the shows they stream and the media they absorb every day. Next up, in an All About Women satellite exclusive, you’ll be taken backstage to take part in a live Q&A with Jessa Crispin who will explore the ideas in her latest book, Why I Am Not A Feminist.
The All About Women live-stream will conclude with a panel discussion titled Nasty Women, featuring Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Van Badham and Lindy West, who’ll explore the labels that are deployed to try to put women in their place.
MidCoast Council’s Library Events Officer, Danielle Donnelly, is looking forward to, once again, connecting local people with a world class event right here in their own community. “We had such a positive response following our live-streaming of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas in 2016 and we’re excited that we can bring this event to Taree Library this year,” said Danielle.
If you’d like to come along, tickets are free, but bookings are essential and can be made by visiting www.manningvallerylibraries.com.au.
