Avalon Road, Krambach before resurfacing
Reconstruction of 670 metres of Avalon Road near Krambach either side of the intersection with Germany Lane.
This section of road has been badly deteriorated and patched over many years, and requires a full reconstruction along the selected length of road, which extends east from near the George Windross bridge, through the Germany Lane intersection and for a further 410 metres.

The full road reconstruction will improve safety through widening of the road and replacing the road pavement.

The works are scheduled to be completed in March 2018, with a shutdown planned for the busy Christmas/New Year period.

Crews have undertaken site preparation works, including removal of encroaching vegetation, shoulder preparation and culvert widening. Subsoil drains will then be installed before the new gravel pavement overlay is constructed. During periods of working hours, single lane traffic regulation by manual traffic controllers will be in place

"These major works are extensive and we have scheduled them to be completed over a six month period, allowing us to keep the road open to traffic during the upgrade" said Council's Acting Manager - Projects and Engineering, Stuart Small.
"To avoid inconveniencing road users, we will cease work over the Christmas holiday period, and two-way traffic access will be in place during those periods when works are not underway. This project will improve road safety of motorists travelling along Avalon Road, due to the replacement of a badly worn surface and provision of wider lanes, line marking and guide posts."

The $1 million project is due to be completed by March 2018, and is being jointly funded from Council's merger savings and from Roads and Maritime Services.

This programmed work is part of MidCoast Council’s commitment to improving infrastructure across our region.
